Sustainablilty Policy (including Corporate Social Responsibility)

Our mission is for a more sustainable future and this philosophy drives much of our work. This commitment is visible in the everyday practices of our people and our projects, whether through the services we provide or our volunteer efforts for sustainability causes in the community. We understand the value of our natural environment and the need to minimize impacts from society and industry.

We embrace the full concept of sustainable development:

– ie development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs

and are working towards this philosophy. We believe in aligning our business values, mission and strategy with the social, environmental and economic needs of all our stakeholders. Our Sustainability Policy can be provided on request.

 

Environment – Underlining our commitment to the environment, Benchmark has developed and maintained an Environmental Management System. Our system has been assessed, evaluated and accredited to the International Standard ISO 14001:2004. We are constantly working with our clients and suppliers to identify new materials and techniques that help to reduce environmental impact.

Social – Our focus for our social activities involves sharing our knowledge and expertise with organisations. We want to help people start new businesses and have for many years supported the Prince’s Trust. This was founded in 1976 by The Prince of Wales who, having completed his duty in the Royal Navy, became dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK and began The Trust to deliver that commitment. People are at the centre of our own company and so we mentor young people who are trying to establish their own businesses in partnership with The Trust, providing our expertise in relevant areas.

DOUK is such an example. The only 100% independent handmade snowboard manufacturer in the UK. Based near Evesham, Worcestershire, David set up DOUK with the mission to develop and produce custom designed snowboards and skis here in the UK for winter sports enthusiasts. DOUK uses innovative ideas, whilst pushing the boundaries of design and construction.

We also believe that giving back to the communities in which we operate is fundamental to our business. We actively encourage our people in volunteering efforts. Our community engagement is focussed upon providing support to nominated organisations through the deployment of our people’s time. Our people are also encouraged to contribute their own time to these and any other organisations of their choice.

Deployment of staff time is defined as:

Office based staff – Benchmark will fund 1 day a year for all office based staff only.

Field based staff – Benchmark at this point in time is unable to fund field based staff for community engagement but would encourage staff to give their own time freely to organisations of their own choice. Field based staff can make ad hoc requests for donations for community support, which will be reviewed by the Managing Director.
